Saltburn (2023)

Ok yall are so dramatic. This movie is honestly so amazing, the cinematography, coloring, casting, plot, character development, everything was so good. Not all movies are supposed to be normal. This movie is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. All the weird stuff that Oliver does is supposed to reinforce the level of unhinged that he is. This ins't a happy-go-lucky gay romance coming of age story. Its a psychological drama about a man with odd motivations.

SPOILER ALERT

Visually, this film is stunning, the contrast, the lighting all of it UGH i love it. One moment that really sticks out to me is the scene when the coroner is removing Felix's body from the property. In order to avoid seeing Felix's dead body they pull the curtains. These curtains are a shear red which casts a dark red, almost red room effect onto all the characters, showing the anger and overall negative emotions they are feeling in the moment. I find it interesting how in the scenes where Felix is "being Felix" (partying, drinking, dancing, etc) the lighting is very green. So when Felix was alive, the lighting was green, When Felix was dead, the lighting was red. Considering that red and green are opposite to each other on the color wheel i thought it was an interesting how that contrast reflected a change in Felix's state.

ok. It would be a crime if i didn't talk about our main guy, Oliver. Ok so at the beginning of the film we believe Oliver to be a poor, unfortunate kid, because of this, his obsession with befriending Felix makes Oliver look Like a leech, latching onto Felix for all he has to offer. However, as the film progresses, we learn that Oliver is also from a upper-middle class family, So he's not a leech. then maybe he's a spider, he weaves this intricate plan to get what he wants from Felix. This plan involving killing all of them off in order to get Salt burn. However, spiders don't love. Oliver is best described as a moth. He found something he loves and is attracted to it endlessly (a moth to a flame) But when he gets hurt he decides to eat away at everything Felix loves and cares about in order to support his own gain and growth.

Overall, I loved this movie, I don't get why people hate it so much. People are upset about 2 kinda wonky scenes (im not saying they're not weird but like Human Centipede exists) I loved it so much and if people are really that grossed out by it than thats on them because they missed out on a great movie. Like it honestly might be one of my favorite movies
