I love this movie. I love how real it is. As a teenage girl with a mom i RELATE to this SO HARD. like this is for sure an extreme for me but when people fight with their moms or when moms give advice. I Love how this film showed how moms are really just trying their best. like as a viewer you see the mom as the villain but in reality she really is trying to be helpful but she just isnt saying the right thing.  I love what the Nun said. She said something like "isnt it amazing the connection between love and attention" and then it cuts to the mom nitpicking about LadyBird dragging her feet. it kinda forces the viewer to see that the mom does care about her.  I think that because christine feels so unseen and disliked by her mom thats why she jumps into  relationships with garbage guys so quickly.   Im obsessed with this movie. Its for sure in my top 5 movies and you can try to say its recency bias but youre just wrong. This movie is awesome. I dont even know how to describe why i liked this movie so much, I just do. The cinematography is chefs kiss and i liked how different shots conveyed different feelings. I feel like this whole movie could've taken place inside Mahitos head while he copes with the depression resulting from his mothers death. I understand that what happened in the film was real, but i feel like it is real to him. Its all representative of how he feels.       When you lose a loved one, you naturally try to convince yourself that they weren't in pain. In the other world, his mother can control fire and she literally says "Im not afraid of fire." he subconsciously is making what happened to his mother not seem as bad. I dont know if that makes sense but im gonna pretend it does.  The blocks falling over and needing to stack the blocks to keep the world together is representative of how little control He has over his life. Ok. To get this out of the way. I don't love Comedies. movies that are trying to be funny aren't super funny to me.  Anyways. this movie was pretty good first things first. Age Gap? HORRENDOUS. 32 AND 19???? WHAT DO YOU MEAN??? i dont care if the relationship is supposed to be fake. Ok yall are so dramatic. This movie is honestly so amazing, the cinematography, coloring, casting, plot, character development, everything was so good. Not all movies are supposed to be normal. This movie is supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. All the weird stuff that Oliver does is supposed to reinforce the level of unhinged that he is. Its a psychological drama about a man with odd motivations.   SPOILER ALERT      Visually, this film is stunning, the contrast, the lighting all of it UGH i love it. One moment that really sticks out to me is the scene when the coroner is removing Felix's body from the property. In order to avoid seeing Felix's dead body they pull the curtains. These curtains are a shear red which casts a dark red, almost red room effect onto all the characters, showing the anger and overall negative emotions they are feeling in the moment. This is Kinda a Different Blog than Usual because this just hits so close to home and it feels wrong to just do a normal blog like this is any other movie  Trigger Warning: Mention of self harm, conversion therapy and extreme homophobia/transphobia  Going into this Documentary I knew it was going to be a hard watch. As someone who is part of the LGBTQ community while simultaneously growing up with a catholic education, I knew that homophobia ran rampant within the religious community. However, I did not know the true origin and reasoning for the creation of conversion therapy before watching this film.      In watching this film, I realized that conversion therapy stemmed from self hate and loathing. The founder of the organization focused on, Exodus, began a "Gay Thoughts" support group at his local church because he felt alone in his feelings and urges toward homosexuality.   I Really liked this movie. This was the last Tim Burton film i had to watch for my Midterm and I think it was a great one to end on. This film screams Burton, with the bland houses compared to the german expressionist style with Eds house. Ed compared to everyone else, his quirks and his outsider mentality.  Overall this movie was great, I loved the character development from all the main characters, and i loved the full circle moment at the end.  While i really like this movie, there are some things that i think are kind of unessesary. For instance, when bad things just kept happening to Ed, like we get it, hes gonna have to go back, you dont have to rub it in yknow. Also why does Joyce exist, I mean she just needs to touch grass, and get some therapy.
