Pickpocket (1959)

This was kinda my first all black and white movie. Its in french so i had to use subtitles but honeslty the older i get the less subtitles bother me. I used to not be able to watch a movie if it had subtitles because they were all i could focus on.
This movie was overall pretty ok. I thought the plot was pretty interesting. I liked the compilations of the theft throughout. I also liked how we can see the main character get better at pickpocketing throughout the movie. However, I didn't like the pacing. There were long bouts of silence or just room tone for like two minute periods and i was just bored. I understand that its to represent how quiet this mans life is and how kind of lonely it is but i still didn't like it. to be honest, I had to put the movie on 2x speed to keep me from dnfing it but thats my ADHDs fault. I also was a little confused with the plot. There wasnt a whole lot going on but there was still conflict??? i dont know. Overall the movie was pretty ok. I wouldve liked it more if i was more used to the film style.

  1. 2x speed?! I was going to say how happy that you watched this French movie. Still, I'm glad you dug the French New Wave. There's so much more of that if you dug the vibe of this movie.
